Tortilla adalah roti pipih tanpa ragi. Biasanya terbuat dari jagung giling atau gandum. Konon nama roti ini berasal dari kata torta yang berarti sebuah kue bundar. Di Amerika utara, yang dimaksud tortilla adalah yang terbuat dari jagung giling, mirip keripik, dan ini dianggap yang asli. Sedangkan di Spanyol, tortilla adalah sejenis makanan seperti martabak yang terbuat dari kentang goreng dan telur kocok. Makanan ini merupakan telur dadar tradisionalnya Spanyol. Tortilla yang terbuat dari gandum adalah hasil inovasi, dan ini sangat mirip dengan roti pipih yang terkenal di negara-negara Arab.
Beberapa waktu lalu saya menemukan resep tortilla di tabloid Nova. Saat menemukan baking powder dan mentega putih di supermarket, mendadak saya ingin sekali mempraktekkan resep itu. Sebenarnya nggak pede sih, mengingat sering banget gagal kalau bikin roti-rotian. Tapi, Bismillah, nekat nyoba ^^

Berikut adalah bahan-bahan dan cara membuat tortilla yang saya copas dari Nova.
Bahan:
250 gram tepung terigu serbaguna
½ sdt baking powder
75 gram mentega putih
125 ml air hangat
½ sdt garam
Cara membuat:
– Campur tepung serbaguna, baking powder, dan mentega putih hingga berbutir-butir
– Masukkan air hangat dan garam, uleni hingga kalis.
– Diamkan adonan di tempat hangat selama 1 jam
– Timbang adonan seberat 50 gram, giling tipis. Panggang di atas wajan antilengket dan balik sesekali hingga kulit matang.
Tahu nggak saat sesi penggilingan saya pakai apa? Pakai botol bekas selai! Saya juga nggak pake nimbang adonan. lihat deh hasilnya, diameternya nggak ada yang sama, hihihi…
Begitu matang, rasanya kok mirip roti canai ya? Nggak papa dah, yang penting bisa dimakan ^^
Oiya, isian roti ini sangat banyak variasinya. Ada yang isinya daging sapi, daging ayam olahan, ikan, atau sayuran. Saya bikin yang isinya ikan tuna plus salad sayuran. Jadi daging tuna kukus, saya suwir-suwir, campur dengan selada dan mentimun, diaduk-aduk dengan saus mayonais dan saus tomat serta sedikit saus sambal. Taruh isian di selembar tortilla, gulung dengan rapi, panggang sebentar di atas teflon yang sudah diolesi mentega. Begitu saja sudah enyak dan seger ^^
